Softball To Host NEC Opponents, St. Francis PA and Sacred Heart This Weekend

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team will host two Northeast Conference double-headers this weekend.  The Knights will face the Red Flash of St. Francis PA on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 pm and the Pioneers of Sacred Heart on Sunday, April 10 at noon.

The Knights, who picked up a pair of wins at St. Peter's this week, are 15-14 on the season but 0-6 in NEC play.  Freshman Berkleigh Massey (Oceanside, CA/Rancho Buena Vista) leads the Knights' offense with a batting average of .337.  She has amassed 29 hits including six doubles, a triple and four home-runs.

The Red Flash are 7-25 on the season with an 0-4 record in conference play.  They most recently fell to the University of Akron in two games and have been defeated by NEC opponents, Bryant and Central Connecticut State.

St. Francis is led by freshman Jasa Mitchell who has a batting average of .326.  Junior Megan Layne leads the team on the mound.  She has recorded six of the team's seven wins and has an earned run average of 3.49.

The Pioneers are 16-14 on the season and have won five games in the NEC thus far, while only dropping one.  Sacred Heart split a pair of games with Monmouth and defeated Wagner and Mount St. Mary's earlier this season.

SHU is led by juniors Liz Tsipouras and Courtney Lee who maintain batting averages of .451 and .380, respectively.  The Pioneers will face Central Connecticut State on Saturday.

After the weekend home-stand, the Knights will travel to West Long Branch to take on the Monmouth Hawks.  First-pitch at Monmouth is slated for 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 16.
