Softball Falls at Central Connecticut State

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team fell to the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State University in two games in New Britain, CT on Saturday, April 2.  The Knights fall to 13-12 on the season, with a 0-4 record in the Northeast Conference.

The Knights fell 8-2 in the first game.  Maire Shaughnessy (Culpeper, Va./Highland) pitched for FDU.  She allowed 12 hits and eight earned runs and struck-out four batters.  The Knights were led offensively by an RBI single from Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove).  Bradac was driven home by a single to second base by Elizabeth Woidt.

The Blue Devils scored three runs in the fifth inning to secure the win.

The Knights scored the first run of the second game with a one run home-run from Bradac.  The Blue Devils tied the game at one run in the bottom of the fourth and score three more in the bottom of the sixth.

FDU saw another home-run from Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood) in the seventh inning but could not catch the Blue Devils.

Bradac picked up the 2-4 loss in the second game with seven hits and four earned runs.  She struck out seven batters in six innings of work.

"We need to hit the ball better," said Head Coach Dale Martin.  "We could not capitalize with runners in scoring position, but we can build off of today's games to make improvements."

The Knights are back in action on Sunday, April 3 as they host Bryant in a double-header beginning at 2:00 pm.
