The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (14-15, 7-11 NEC) will look to upset top-seed Saint Francis PA in a Northeast Conference quarterfinal game on Saturday, March 5. As the eighth seed, FDU travels to Loretto, PA for a 2:00 pm tip-off at DeGol Arena.
The Knights and Red Flash are not a typical one-eight match-up, as each team took a victory in one of the team's meetings this season. On January 15, SFPA took an overtime win, 73-70 after leading by 17 points just with just four minutes remaining in regulation. The Knights retaliated on February 19 with a 62-58 win at the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ.
The Red Flash are led by NEC Player of the Year, Samantha Leach and coached by Brenda Riley NEC Coach of the Year, Susan Robinson Fruchtl. Leach has led the NEC in scoring all season with 17.4 points per game.
The Knights have allowed opponents to score only 60.3 points per game this season and although SFPA is 11-1 at home this season, they are 0-7 when scoring under 60 points.
"We've proven we can compete with them on their home court", said Head Coach Pete Cinella in the NEC pre-tournament conference call. "That will give us the mental edge need to find a way to stop them."
The winner of Saturday's game will move on to the semifinal round of the tournament. The semifinal games are scheduled for Tuesday, March 8 at the home of the highest remaining seeds.
