Softball Drops a Pair of Games in Kissimmee

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team was defeated in two games at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, FL on Tuesday, March 15.  With the losses, the Knights drop to 8-5 on the season. 

The Knights took on The University of Hartford in their first game of the day.  FDU took a one run lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly from Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove).  Hartford took the lead scored three runs in the third and held the lead until the fifth inning. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Paige Castro (Elk Grove, CA/Franklin) doubled down the left-field line.  Castro scored on a double from Lauren Hamilton (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville)Berkeleigh Massey continued the streak of extra-base hits with a double to center field. The RBI from Massey tied the game at four runs apiece.

Hartford spent the last inning pounding out extra base hits.  The Hawks took an eventual 8-4 lead and the win.

The Knights faced The University of Wisconsin- Green Bay in the afternoon game.  The Knights took the first run of the game when Bradac reached home on a WGB error.  The Knights held the lead until the bottom of the fourth inning when Wisconsin Green Bay scored two runs on two hits and one error.

The Pheonix extended their lead to 4-1 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Mikayla Fernandez (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) hit an RBI double to center field in the top of the sixth but it was not enough to take the lead.  The Knights fell, 4-2.

"We have to do a better job executing and making routine plays," said Head Coach Dale Martin. 
"We had runners in scoring position but were not able to get timely hits."

"It we can make these adjustments we'll be good for the rest of the week."

The Knights will take Wednesday off before facing Youngstown State and Houston Baptist on Thursday.
