Solid Defense Leads Softball at Rebel Spring Games

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team began the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimee, FL with three wins.  The Knights improved to 8-3 on the season with wins over St. Peter's, Butler, and Army.

The Knights took on Eastern Illinois in their first game of the spring tournament.  The Panthers stopped FDU from scoring more than once with a strong outing from pitcher Amber May.  May recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts in the contest.  EIU took the win, 2-1.

FDU faced in-state rival, St. Peter's College in the afternoon game.  The Knights scored eight runs to take down the Peahens, 8-4.

On Monday morning the Knights matched up with Butler.  The Bulldogs took a quick two run lead before freshman Berkleigh Massey (Oceanside, CA/Rancho Buena Vista) hit a two-run homerun to tie the game.  Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood) hit a solo home-run later in the game to give the Knights the ultimate, 3-2 win.

"We played solid defense," said Head Coach Dale Martin.  "Kirsten [Shreve] pitched a great game and we were able to hold them off to get the win."

The Knights faced Army in their second game on Monday.  Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove) pitched a one-hitter to lead the Knights to a 1-0 victory over the Black Knights.

"The team has done a very nice job finishing the games out," added Martin.  "We're hoping to have an offensive breakout in the next few games," added Martin.  "The team has done a nice job finishing these low scoring games."
