W. Volleyball Falls at Home to CCSU, 3-1

The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision Saturday afternoon at home to Central Connecticut State at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ.  With the victory, the Blue Devils improve to 16-9 (7-4 NEC) on the season, while the Knights fall to 15-10 (5-6 NEC) overall.

The Knights, who lost to the Blue Devils twice earlier in the season by identical 3-0 scores, got out of the gate quick in the first set and held on for a 25-20 victory.  However, CCSU woke up in the second set and cruised to a 25-11 victory.  The Blue Devils jumped out to a quick lead in set three and hung on for a 25-22 victory.  In the clinching fourth set, the Knights started out hot and held an early five point advantage.  CCSU then was able to rally and took a lead before the Knights were able to cut the defecit to one at 19-18, but the Blue Devils regained control and closed out the set decisively to win 25-19 and clinch the match.

Junior Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) picked up a double-double as she led the Knights with a game-high 20 kills, while chipping in 16 digs.  Sophomore Taylor Roland-Buohl (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) just missed a triple-double with nine kills, nine digs and 23 assists.

Senior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) also recorded a double-double with a team-high 24 assists and 10 digs. 

Senior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led the Knights with a game-high 23 digs on defense, while fellow classmate Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) paced the squad on defense with two block solos and four block assists.

Freshman Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach ) added 12 kills on offense for FDU.

The Knights have a quick turnaround as they return to action on Sunday for a home NEC contest against Sacred Heart at Stratis Arena in Hackensack.  The match is the Knights' Dig Pink Event which raises awareness for breast cancer.  First-serve is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
