The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team suffered its first home loss of the season with a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Robert Morris in Northeast Conference action on Saturday at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ.
The Knights' record falls to 14-8 (4-4 NEC), as the Colonials improve to 12-12 (7-2 NEC).
FDU's offense couldn't get in gear in the opening set, with the Knights committing 11 attack errors. RMU scored the final five points in the set to run away with a 25-15 win for a 1-0 lead.
The offense had no problem getting started in set two as FDU jumped out to a 12-4 lead. Senior
Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) recorded three of her six kills over that stretch, and junior
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep), who finished with a match-best 16 kills, also had three early in the set. Things went downhill for the Knights when the Colonials went on a 7-0 run to turn their six-point deficit into a one-point lead at 23-22. RMU picked the final two points it needed for a 25-23 win in the set.
The Colonials finished off the Knights with a third set 25-15 win behind 14 kills to just two errors in the set. FDU was done in by another 7-0 run by the visitors, who handed the Knights their first home loss in five matches this season.
Senior
Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) tied RMU's Hannah Hoffman for a match-high 27 assists on the afternoon. Willey is now just 10 assists away from tying the program record of 3185 held by Ruth Levy.
The Colonials had a .310 hitting percentage and were led in kills by Lindsey Monger's 11 to go along with 10 digs.
Senior
Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) recorded a match-best 14 digs, while four different Knights had block assists on the day.
The Knights will look to right the ship with a 1 p.m. match against NEC foe Saint Francis PA tomorrow at Stratis Arena.
