Men's Soccer Suffers Tough Loss to Princeton in Home-Opener, 1-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team suffered a heart-breaking loss to Princeton on Saturday night, 1-0 at University Field in Teaneck.  The Tigers improve to 1-0-0 on the season with the win, while the Knights fall to 1-1-0 overall.

In the 88th minute, Princeton's Matt Sanner took a shot that rocketed off the cross bar and deflected back into the box.  Antoine Hoppenot was able to come up with the loose ball and ripped a shot into the back of the net for the game-winner.

Prior to that, the Knights had a couple of good scoring chances in the second half that were near misses.

Both teams were evenly-matched throughout the contest.  Princeton out-shot the Knights, 9-7.   Each team also had seven corner kicks.

Freshman Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) (Highlands Ranch, CO) suffered a tough loss in net for the Knights.  He turned away four shots on the night.  Sean Lynch made three saves for Princeton.

"I thought we played a good game tonight," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "I thought we defended well against them.  We created some dangerous opportunities and were unlucky not to finish them.  Although it is disappointing to lose on such a late goal, we will be able to take a lot of positives out of this game."

The Knights return to action on Friday, Sept. 10, as they travel to Queens to take on St. John's.  Kick-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
