Women's Volleyball Wins, 3-1, Versus Saint Peter's at the Lafayette Tournament

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team picked up its second victory of the season Friday afternoon as they defeated intra-state rival, Saint Peter's, 3-1, at the Lafayette Tournament in Easton, PA.  With the victory, the Knights improve to 2-4 on the season, while the Peahens fall to 2-2 overall.

Saint Peter's was able to get off to a quick start in game one and was able defeat the Knights, 25-17.  However, the Knights regrouped in game two and squeaked out a 25-23 victory to even the match at one-game apiece.  The Knights then used the momentum gained in their victory and carried it over to game three, where they were able to pull out another 25-23 victory.  In game four, the Knights cruised to a 25-18 victory to clinch the match.

Sophomores Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica), Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) and senior Erin Roudebush (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) each had nine kills to lead the Knights.  Senior Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) added eight kills.

Junior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led the squad on defense with 24 digs.  Senior Amanda Alayon (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) and Wheeler added nine and eight digs, respectively.  Wheeler and Slabakova also each had two block-assists to lead the Knights.

Slabakova stayed hot with her serves as she recorded three more service aces, giving her eight in the last two games.  Alayon also had three service aces.

Junior setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) dished out 35 assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson returns to action tomorrow, Sept. 4, as they continue play in the Lafayette Tournament.  The Knights take on Lafayette at 10:00 a.m. before playing Princeton at 3:00 p.m.
