The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team defeated conference-foe Central Connecticut State on the road Sunday afternoon in New Britain, CT, 3-1. The match was very competitive as each game was decided by five points or less. The Knights won game one, 25-23, before dropping game two, 26-24. However, the visitors bounced back nicely in the final two games by posting winning scores of 25-20 and 25-22. With the victory, the Knights improve to 6-11 (1-1 NEC) on the season, while the Blue Devils fall to 3-10 (1-1 NEC) overall.
Sophomore Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) posted her second consecutive double-double on the weekend as she smashed 21 kills and recorded 12 digs on the defensive end. She also posted a .333 attack percentage. Senior Erin Roudebush (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) added nine kills.
Junior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) dished out 41 assists. Junior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led four Knights in double-figures in digs with 21. Senior Amanda Alayon (West Haverstraw, NY/North Rockland) added 15 digs, while freshman Taylor Roland-Buohl added 12. Sophomore Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) paced the squad with four block-assists.
As a team, the Knights posted a .204 attack percentage en route to 47 kills. The team also had 44 assists, 14 blocks, and 70 digs.
The Knights return to action on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1:00 p.m. as the team plays their second home game of the season at the Rothman Center in Hackensack. FDU takes on conference-defending champion, Long Island.
