The Fairleigh Dickinson University
women's volleyball team picked up its third victory of the season Friday evening
as they defeated Coppin State, 3-0, at the Providence Tournament in Providence,
Rhode Island. With the victory, the Knights improve to 3-7 on the season,
while the Eagles fall to 0-8 overall.
The Knights played their best
all-around match of the season as they were never really challenged. The squad cruised to victories of 25-14,
25-15 and 25-14 in the match that lasted a little over an hour.
The Knights only needed 38 kills on
the offensive end and ended up with a season-high .290 attack percentage. Seniors Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) and Erin Roudebush (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) led
the team in kills as they posted 10 and nine, respectively. Berkland had an attack percentage of .500 and
Roudebush contributed with a .300 attack percentage.
Junior setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air)
dished out 24 assists, and sophomore Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) tallied three of the Knights' seven service aces.
Junior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led the
squad on defense with 20 digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson returns to
action tomorrow, Sept. 11, as they continue play in the Providence Tournament.
The Knights take on NEC-rival St. Francis (NY) at 1:00 p.m. before taking on
the hosts, Providence, at 5:00 p.m.
