The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team dropped a pair of games on its first day at the Rebel Spring Games, held in Kissimmee, FL, as the Knights fell to University of Tennessee- Martin, 9-0, and Akron, 15-0.
The Knights' first four games at the event were cancelled due to weather.
In the first game of the day, Mikayla Fernandez (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) led the Knights, going 2-for-3, but a seven-run third inning put UTM in a commanding lead. They posted two more runs in the seventh for the 9-0 win, holding the Knights to four hits, while collecting 12 hits.
Kristen Kinneer (Pottstown, PA/St. Peter's) recorded FDU's only hit of the second game versus Akron, finishing the game 1-for-2. Akron posted 15 runs on 16 hits, with two runs in the first, second and fourth innings and a nine-run third inning.
The Knights are back in action against Rider and Cleveland State on March 17 at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
