The Fairleigh Dickinson women's volleyball team defeated St.
Francis (NY), 3-1, Wednesday night in a road Northeast Conference match in
Brooklyn, NY. The Knights have now won
two straight and three of their last four matches. The Terriers won game one, 25-22, before the
visitors took the next three games. In
game two, the Knights cruised to a 25-10 victory. Game three was a nail biter, but FDU was able
to squeak out a 26-24 victory. In game
five, the Knights were never in trouble as they won, 25-15, to clinch the
match. With the victory, the Knights
improve to 8-12 (3-2 NEC) on the season, while the Terriers fall to 5-12 (1-3
NEC) overall.
Senior Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North)
and sophomore Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica)
paced the Knights with 10 kills apiece.
Both players also posted season bests in attack percentage as Berkland
was successful at a .625 clip (10-for-16), while Slabakova recorded a
percentage of .348. Also, both players
led the team with three block-assists, along with junior Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara).
Junior Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air)
dished out 40 assists to lead the Knights, and sophomore Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) served five aces.
Junior Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) led
defensively with 22 digs.
As a team, the Knights posted an attack percentage of .259
(43-for-116), which is one of their top percentages of the season.
The Knights will look to win their third straight game on
Saturday as they travel to Smithfield, RI to take on Bryant in a Northeast Conference tilt. First-serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
