Men's Soccer Stifles Central Connecticut State, Wins 1-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team picked up its second consecutive NEC victory as they went on the road Thursday night and defeated Central Connecticut State, 1-0, New Britain, CT.  With the victory, the Knights improve to 7-6-1 (3-3-1 NEC) on the season, while the Blue Devils fall to 3-8-2 (0-4-2 NEC).

After both teams failed to score over the first 39 minutes, sophomore Dominic Reinold (Wesseling, Germany/Gesamtschule Rodenkirchen) intercepted a pass back to the goalkeeper and found the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season three seconds into the 40th minute to put the Knights up, 1-0.

Over the first 45 minutes, the Blue Devils outshot the Knights, 4-3.

In the second half, the hosts pressured the Knights defense and freshman goalkeeper Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) as they fired eight shots.  However, the Knights defense and Lissek were up to the task and were able to keep the Blue Devils out of the net to hang on for the 1-0 victory.  Fairleigh Dickinson only managed three shots in the second half and six for the game, while Central Connecticut State recorded 12 shots.  Lissek finished the game with five saves, while recording his second consecutive shutout.  Anthony Occhialini made two saves for the Blue Devils.

The Knights play the second of three-straight NEC road games as they travel to Hamden, CT on Sunday, October 24, to take on Quinnipiac.  Kick-off is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
