The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team wrapped up competition at the Lafayette College Tournament in Easton, PA on Saturday, Sept. 5 as the Knights (3-5) split the final pair of matches. FDU defeated St. Peter's, 3-2, before being swept by host Lafayette.
Against the Peahens, the Knights won the first game, 25-21, but fell in the second, 25-16. After taking the third game, 25-22, Fairleigh Dickinson fell in a tough fourth game, 26-24. The Knights grabbed the win as they battled to take the match-deciding fifth game, 15-10.
Freshman Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA) led the Knights with 24 kills, 20 digs and two block assists, while freshman Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, MI) added 17 kills and two service aces. Junior Amanda Alayon (West Haverstraw, NY) chipped in 15 digs. Sophomore Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD) finished the match with 43 assists and 18 digs.
Fairleigh Dickinson rounded out competition at the Lafayette Tournament dropping a 3-0 match to host Lafayette (25-18, 25-13, 25-23).
Senior Ali Philbrick (Lanham, MD) led the squad with 11 kills, five digs, one block assist and one solo block. Wheeler added eight kills, six digs and one solo block and Willey dished out 23 assists.
The Knights are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Manhattan at 7:00 p.m.
