The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat NJIT, 2-1, on Saturday evening in Newark, NJ. The Knights improve to 3-4 on the season, while the Highlanders fall to 2-7.
Fernando Huthmacher started the scoring in the 28th minute as Cristian Vasconez sent a cross from the left to Serge Zulu (Longueuil, Quebec/College Francais), who tapped it over to Huthmacher.
Huthmacher found the back of the net for his first goal of the season, giving the Knights a 1-0 lead.
In the 57th minute, Gustav Warfving fed the ball to Rahim Stennett, who connected on a free kick from the right side, 30-yards out to knot the game.
Huthmacher scored again, putting in the eventual game-winner, on a pass from Paul King (New Castle, England/Monkseaton) two minutes later. King dribbled down the right side of the field to the baseline and found Huthmacher in the box.
Juho Illi (Nastola, Finland/) made four saves to earn the win in net for the Knights, while Ryan Sutherland made three saves between the posts for NJIT.
NJIT held a slight edge in shots, 14-11, while the two teams were evenly matched in corner kicks, 5-5.
"It was a good team effort on both sides of the ball," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "We competed well and it's nice to see Bo get in the scoring column."
