Women's Volleyball Edged by Columbia and Bryant and Columbia Classic

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team fell in four games to host Columbia before dropping a five-game match to Bryant at the Columbia Tournament on Saturday afternoon. The Knights fall to 3-12 on the season.

After dropping the first game against Columbia, 25-15, the Knights bounced back to win the second game, 25-23. The Lions then took the final two games (25-16, 25-17) to win the match.

Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) led the Knights with 14 kills, adding two service aces, 10 digs and one block assist. Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) registered a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs.

Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) dished out 38 assists, while adding one ace, 15 digs and three block assists. Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) recorded one block solo and four block assists. Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) chipped in two aces and a team-high 22 digs.

Against Bryant, the Knights dropped the first game, 25-21, but defeated the Bulldogs in the second and third games (25-21, 25-21) to take a 2-1 lead. But Bryant earned a 25-22 win in the fourth game and a 15-9 victory in the tie-breaker.

Philbrick led the Knights in the second match with 21 kills. Willey fed 44 assists and Semler recorded a team-high 18 digs. Slabakova, Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) and Lawryn Fowler (Gaithersburg, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) each had three blocks.

The Knights open their home season on Wed., Sept. 23 when they host St. Peter's at 7:00 p.m.
