Softball Defeats St. John's 3-0 Before Falling, 0-2

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team shutout St. John's, 3-0, before falling, 2-0, in the second game of a doubleheader in Jamaica, NY on Wednesday afternoon.  The Knights are now 11-37, while St. John's is 24-23.

In the first game, the Knights picked up two runs in the first inning and one in the third for the win. In the first inning Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood) drew a walk and Kim Carbaugh (Johnstown, PA/Richland) followed it with a single. Brittany Sheppard (Mahwah, NJ/Paramus Catholic) drew a two-out walk and Brianne Benedict (Alliance, OH/West Branch) was hit by a pitch to plate Shreve. Justina Augustine (Geneva, NY/Geneva)'s walk pushed Carbaugh across the plate, giving FDU the 2-0 advantage.

In the third inning, Caitln Bradac singled through the left side to lead off. Carbaugh singled up the middle to score Lindsay Glidden (Peachtree City, GA/Starr's Mill), sealing the win.

Bradac earned the shutout, scattering six hits and striking out four. Bradac was also 2-for-4 at the plate, while Carbaugh went 2-for-3 and Sheppard went 2-for-2.

In the second game, the Red Storm picked up a run in the bottom of the first and the fifth innings for the win.

Trina Fields (Norridge, IL/Ridgewood) scattered seven hits and struck out five, while only walking one in six innings. Benedict led the Knights on offense, going 2-for-3.

The Knights are back in action on Thursday, April 30 at Lafayette.
