Baseball Drops League Series with Quinnipiac by Virtue of Sunday?s 8-4 Loss

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell, 8-4, versus visiting Quinnipiac University, Sunday, April 26 in Teaneck, NJ.  The Knights slipped to 10-26 overall and 5-11 in the Northeast Conference.

The Bobcats improved to 13-25 overall (6-10 NEC) led by freshman outfielder Chris Migani's (Orange, CT) three hits and three RBI.  Senior catcher Michael Marmo (Roslyn, NY) added a three-hit effort.

Fairleigh Dickinson red-shirt junior first baseman Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) (San Diego, CA) went for multiple hits, while senior outfielder Jeff Vincent (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional) (Murrysville, PA) got on board twice.

The Knights struck first, plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Freshman infielder Ryan Kresky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) pulled a pitch through the right side to drive home a run.  Counterpart Mike Eliasen (Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Swedesboro, NJ) chopped an RBI base knock through the left side, with a QU fielding miscue allowing for a 3-0 home-standing lead.

With two outs in the fourth, freshman first baseman Gabe Guerino (Milford, CT) flared a base hit to right-centerfield to cut the deficit to 3-1.  The ensuing inning, Migani and sophomore infielder Bryn Doyle (Manchester, NH) lifted back-to-back sacrifice flies to knot things at three.

FDU quickly answered, as Vincent roped a one-out double down the line and advanced to third via a balk.  Freshman infielder Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas) (Coral Springs, FL) grounded out to score Vincent, and the Knights jumped back ahead, 4-3, after four.

A Quinnipiac three-spot in the sixth inning off senior right-handed reliever Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY) allowed for a 6-4 margin.  With two outs, a bloop single courtesy of junior outfielder Ryan Ullrich (Woodbridge, CT) tied the game.  Migani smoked a single through the hole, driving in two additional runs.

The Knights lost a two-out fly ball in the sun in the eighth inning, allowing a runner to score all the way from first base.  Marmo went yard to right-centerfield in the ninth, pushing the score to 8-4.

FDU freshman right-hander Jonathan Scott (Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) (Northvale, NJ) received a no decision, yielding two earned runs over 5.0 innings.  Green took the loss.

Senior righty Joe Duffy (Commack, NJ) advanced to 2-6 after turning in 8.0 innings and striking out six.  Junior right-hander Todd DeFrancesco (North Haven, CT) worked a 1-2-3 final frame.

Fairleigh Dickinson travels to St. John's University at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 29.
