Softball Swept by Mount St. Mary's

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team fell to host Mount St. Mary's, 3-2 and 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in Emmitsburg, MD. FDU is now 9-31 overall, with a 4-12 mark in Northeast Conference action, while the Mount improves to 12-27 overall and 7-6 in league play.

Mount St. Mary's held a 1-0 lead through the first three innings, but the Knights tied the game up in the top of the fourth as Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove) plated Justina Augustine (Geneva, NY/Geneva) with an RBI double.

Mount picked up two more runs in the bottom of the inning for a 3-1 advantage. The Knights were able to post one more run in the top of the seventh, on an Augustine single through the right side that pushed Kim Carbaugh (Johnstown, PA/Richland) past the plate. But it wasn't enough as the Mountaineers took the victory.

Bradac allowed one earned run on six hits. Bradac finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, while Augustine was 2-for-4.

In the second game, the Mountaineers took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Mount added another run in the bottom of the third inning, but FDU responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth as Carbaugh started things off with a double and Trina Fields (Norridge, IL/Ridgewood) walked. Allaire Primiano (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) smacked a two-run double to make it 5-2.

Brittany Sheppard (Mahwah, NJ/Paramus Catholic) had an RBI single in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as the Knights fell, 5-3. Augustine finished the game 3-for-4, while Lindsay Glidden (Peachtree City, GA/Starr's Mill) and Carbaugh were each 2-for-4.

"We kept fighting back, which was a great thing to see," said Head Coach Dale Martin.  "In the second game, they jumped out to an early lead and we left too many people on base."
