The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team split a pair of games in West Point, NY at Army on Thursday afternoon. The Knights shutout the Black Knights in the first game, 6-0, but fell in five innings in the second game, 9-0.
With two outs in the second inning of the first game, Kirsten Shreve (Kent, WA/Kentwood) started a rally with a single to right field before stealing second. Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) plated her with a double to right field and Brianne Benedict (Alliance, OH/West Branch) singled to the third baseman, who had a throwing error to score Keltos.
The Knights added two runs in the fifth inning as Lauren Hamilton (Woodinville, WA/Woodinville) had a two-out single to right field and Caitlin Bradac (Garden Grove, CA/Garden Grove) walked to advance her. Lindsay Glidden (Peachtree City, GA/Starr's Mill)'s RBI single to left center field was followed by a single to left field by Kristen Coughlan (Mount Royal, NJ/Kingsway), pushing Bradac across the plate.
Justina Augustine (Geneva, NY/Geneva)'s single in the sixth inning sent Keltos across home plate and the Knights sealed the victory with a run in the seven as pinch runner Allaire Primiano (Tarrytown, NY/Sleepy Hollow) scored on a throwing error.
Benedict, Glidden and Keltos were each 2-for-4, while Bradac was 2-for-2. Bradac earned her second win of the season on the mound, allowing only three hits in seven innings with no runs, no walks and six strikeouts.
In the second game, the Black Knights started the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning.
Army added three runs in the second inning, two in the third and four in the fourth inning to close out the 9-0 win in five innings. The Knights had four hits and three errors in the loss.
