The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team closed out the 2009 season with a 3-1 loss to Robert Morris on Saturday.
FDU ends the season with an 8-24 overall record, including a 5-11 mark in Northeast Conference action. The Knights entered today's match winning four out of their last five contests.
After the Colonials took the first set, 25-18, there was a tight second set in which RMU just edged the Knights, 28-26. FDU bounced back to take the next set, 25-13, but Robert Morris closed out the match with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) led the Knights with 13 kills, while Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) added 12. Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) recorded 43 assists and a team-high 15 digs and Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) chipped in 12. Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) posted four blocks and eight kills.
The Knights had some outstanding individual performances this season, as Semler took over the top spot in all-time single-season digs with 550. Willey's 1,072 assists this season rank second in program history and Wheeler's 438 kills are second in the single-season records.
Senior Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) was honored in a ceremony prior to the match as she played in her final tilt as a Knight.
