The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team fell to visiting Long Island, 3-0, on Friday night.
The Blackbirds (14-13, 11-0 Northeast Conference) won the first set 25-15 and captured the second set 25-6. The Knights (4-21, 1-8 NEC) fought back in the third set as Violeta Slabakova (Shelby Township, Mich./Utica) put together a string of four points, including three service aces, but FDU fell, 25-18.
Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) led the Knights with seven kills, while Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) had six. Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) recorded 16 assists and Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) posted 16 digs. Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) and Berkland each had two blocks.
Breanna Cullity and Zuzana Buchlova led the Blackbirds, each with seven kills.
The Knights host St. Francis NY on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 3:00 p.m.
