The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team defeated Bryant in a hard-fought match on Saturday afternoon, taking a 3-2 win for its first conference victory of the season.
The Bulldogs (9-17, 4-4 Northeast Conference) captured the first set, 25-20, but the Knights (4-19, 1-6 NEC)rolled out two straight wins (25-12, 25-22). In a very close third set, Bryant took a 25-22 win to tie up the match. But the Knights earned the win with a 15-13 win in the fifth set.
Senior Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Lanham, MD) had a season-high 19 kills to lead the team, adding nine digs and five blocks. Freshman Meaghan Wheeler (Chatsworth, CA/Chaminade College Prep) (Chatsworth, CA) recorded 13 kills, seven digs and three service aces.
Sophomore Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) (Abingdon, MD) had 42 assists and 11 digs and classmate Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) (Allentwon, PA) led the team with 21 digs. Sophomore Sarah Berkland (Newton, MA/Newton North) (Newton, MA) added seven blocks.
The Knights are back in action on Sunday, October 25 when they Central Connecticut State at 4:00 p.m.
