Women?s Volleyball Comeback Falls Short at Iona

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team fell, 3-1, Wednesday, Sept. 3 at Iona College.  Senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) notched a double-double of 14 kills and 19 digs, coupled with a pair of service aces and four block assists, to pace the Knights (2-3).

 

FDU dropped game one, 25-21, but rebounded to take the second game, 25-13.  The Gaels (3-1) clinched the match with back-to-back wins of 25-19 and 28-26.

 

Senior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) registered 13 kills, while sister, junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) accrued 13 digs.

 

Freshman setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) posted 23 assists and two service aces.  Senior counterpart Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) added 14 assists and three block assists.

 

Freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) recorded a team-high 22 digs, with classmate Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara), a middle blocker, tallying four block assists.

 

The Knights travel to Easton, PA to play a trio of matches at the Lafayette College Tournament.  Action begins at 4:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 versus Delaware State University.
