Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 Friday at DSU

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team split a pair of games on the opening day of the Delaware State University Tournament, Friday, Sept. 26 in Dover.  FDU (9-7) lost, 3-0, versus the Hornets (4-7); but rebounded to take down Wagner College (1-9) in non-conference action, 3-1.

 

The Knights fell, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, to their host at Memorial Hall.

 

Versus Wagner, senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) slammed a match-high 19 kills (.382 attack percentage).  Senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) added nine kills ? including a .533 clip percentage ? while also compiling 20 assists and eight digs.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson ultimately hit above .300 collectively in three-of-four games.  The Knights came out strong to post wins of 25-15 and 25-13.  The Seahawks earned a 25-23 victory in the third game, before Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad sealed things by a 25-20 count.

 

Freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) came away with nine digs and four service aces, with classmate Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air), a setter, accruing 14 assists.

 

In the morning match, Boothby registered 11 kills, with Kowalski and Willey each accounting for 10 assists each.  Semler added 10 digs.

 

FDU takes on Norfolk State University at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept 27 ? the final contest at the Delaware State tourney this weekend.
