Paul King (New Castle, England/Monkseaton) scored two goals while Fernando Huthmacher tallied three points to help lead the Fairleigh DIckinson University men's soccer team past Yale, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Hanover, NH at Dartmouth's Burnham Field. The Knights improve to 3-2 this season, while Yale falls to 1-2 overall.
Huthmacher started the offense for the Knights in the 57th minute when he took a feed from Christian Vasconez (Quito, Ecuador/Dickinson) and beat the keeper with a high shot from the right side of the box.
King added to the lead when Huthmacher found him with a cross from the left side in the 76th minute and he made the final score 3-0 nine minutes later. Sergio Munoz (Linden, NJ/Linden) sent the ball to King, who found the back of the net for the fifth time this season.
"We played very well today," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "I'm pleased with how we controlled the pace of the game. It's great that in the second half we got a little sharper in and around Yale's goal so that we could score three goals. Furthermore, it's nice to get our first shutout of the season."
The Knights held an advantage in shots, 17-7, while Yale held the edge in corner kicks, 11-2. Juho Illi (Nastola, Finland/) made three saves between the posts for the Knights, while Travis Chulick made seven saves for Yale.
