Portland Blanks Men's Soccer

Portland defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team, 4-0, at the Nike Portland Invitational in Portland, OR on Sunday, August 31. The Knights complete competition at the Invitational with a 1-1 record after defeating Washington, 2-1, in the opening match. The Pilots improve to 1-0-1.

Frankie Lopez scored the first goal for Portland in the 35th minute as he dribbled in and sank the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. Lopez then dished the ball to Ryan Kawulok three minutes later for a 2-0 lead.

Lopez scored his fourth goal of the season in the 75th minute off a feed from Jarad Van Schaik. Portland scored the final goal of the match when Leland Wright found Bryan Irwin, who buried the ball into the lower left corner from 12-yards out. Portland out-shot the Knights, 22-8. Juho Illi (Nastola, Finland/), in goal for FDU, made seven saves.

The Knights are back in action at Manhattan on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
