The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team moved to 2-2 on the season, following a 3-0 loss versus The University of South Dakota, Saturday, Aug. 30 on a neutral court in Hampton, VA. FDU bounced back to claim a 3-2 decision against home-standing Hampton University to conclude the tourney.
The Knights fell in the morning, 25-18, 25-14, and 25-19. USD ? who returned their entire starting line-up this fall ? are transitioning to the Division I level, following a 2007 berth in the Division II playoffs; their best showing in school history.
Senior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) paced the offense with eight kills, while senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) added seven kills. Boothby also posted a pair of service aces.
Freshman setter Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) notched 15 assists, with senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) registering eight assists. Kowalski added seven digs, and freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) tallied nine digs.
Against Hampton, FDU won 25-15 and 25-8 in the first two games, but then fell, 25-22 and 25-23. In the deciding game, the Knights were victorious, 15-11.
In the afternoon, Boothby went for 17 kills and two service aces versus the Pirates. Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) collected 11 kills and three aces.
Kowalski recorded 23 assists and Willey had 19 assists. Kowalski also provided three service aces.
Semler finished the second match with 12 digs, with junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) chipping-in eight digs.
Freshman middle blocker Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) netted two block assists, as did senior libero Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville).
