The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team made its 2008 debut, Friday, Aug. 29, shutting out Delaware State University on a neutral court. The Knights notched victories of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-19.
“We won this morning based on a solid serve/receive game and a good offensive attack,” said Head Coach Stacey Recanati.
In the afternoon, Fairleigh Dickinson (1-1) suffered its first setback, 3-2, versus Wofford College. The Terriers took the first two games, 25-22 and 25-15. The Knights rallied for a 28-26 decision, followed by a 25-22 victory. However, Wofford claimed a 15-11 win in the fifth and final game.
Junior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) paced the offense with a team-high 17 kills ? good for a .429 attack percentage. Senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) added 16 kills, a team-best 21 digs, and two service aces.
Senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) accrued 22 assists and nine kills. Freshman counterpart Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) chipped-in 15 dishes.
Freshman libero Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) notched 16 digs and a pair of aces. Junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) recorded 17 digs.
Senior libero Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville) registered two block solos, as did freshman middle blocker Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara).
FDU takes on The University of South Dakota at 11:00 a.m., Saturday Aug. 30. At 3:00 p.m., the Knights square off against host Hampton.
