Monmouth used a second-half goal to defeat the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team in W. Long Branch, NJ on Sunday afternoon in Northeast Conference action. The Knights fall to 9-5-2 on the season, including a 4-2-1 mark in league play. The Hawks improve to 11-3-2 on the season, including a 5-1-1 record in conference action.
The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, in which Monmouth held an edge in shots, 4-2.
With 2:50 remaining on the clock, Monmouth's Angelo Amato fired into the left side of the net on a penalty kick to give the Hawks the 1-0 lead with his first career goal.
MU out-shot the Knights, 8-3, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks. Bryan Meredith was between the posts for MU, but did not make any saves. Majdi Zaineh (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) made four saves in goal for FDU.
"It was a hard fought battle- like most FDU versus Monmouth games," said Head Coach Seth Roland.
The Knights wrap up the regular season at home as they host St. Francis NY on Friday, Nov. 7 at 2:00 p.m. and Long Island on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 1:00 p.m.
