The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team (5-3-1) battled to a 1-1 double-overtime tie against visiting Temple (4-3-2) on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.
With seven minutes remaining in the first half, the Knights had a chance to take the lead as Dan Rasoilo (Clark, NJ/Union Catholic Regional) sent a cross that just missed the head of Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza), but the two teams went into the half scoreless.
Fairleigh Dickinson took control with a 1-0 lead as Rasoilo and Malijani did connect in the 50th minute. Rasoilo fed Malijani from across the box on the right side. Malijani scored his fifth goal of the season as he netted it from six yards out.
The Knights maintained their lead until the 83rd minute, when Temple's JT Noone took a rebound and fired it into the top right corner from 18 yards out.
Temple took a shot in each extra period, but neither team was able to take the win.
“I think that Temple was a very good team,” said Head Coach Seth Roland. “I don't think that this was our sharpest game, but we were strong enough in our mentality to keep battling to the end and that is an important thing.”
The Owls out-shot FDU, 11-5 and held an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks. Carl Spence (St. Catherine, Jamaica/Meadowbrook) was in goal for the Knights, trying to earn his second-straight shutout in his second start after holding NJIT scoreless on Wednesday afternoon. Spence made four saves in the tie, while Brett Mollon made two stops for the Owls.
The Knights wrap up a four-game home stand on Saturday, October 11 when they host Sacred Heart at 1:00 p.m.
