Kyle Patrick scored two goals for Mount St. Mary's to hand the Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team its first Northeast Conference loss of the season, 2-0, on Friday afternoon in Emmitsburg, MD. The Knights fall to 9-4-2 on the season with a 4-1-1 record in league play.
Patrick gave the Mount (9-6-0, 5-1-0 NEC) the lead in the 42nd minute. With the match scoreless, Chris Davis kicked the ball to Will Thomas, who headed the ball to Patrick and the freshman nailed the ball into the netting at 41:17 to hand the Mount a 1-0 edge going into halftime.
The Mount added an insurance goal in the 64th minute as Vinnie Berry served a free kick to Patrick, who knocked the ball into the top right corner of the net off the goalkeeper's fingertips at 63:41.
Davis made two saves for the Mount and registered his first career assist, while notching his seventh shutout of the season. Majdi Zaineh (Clifton, NJ/Clifton), between the posts for the Knights, made five saves in the loss.
Fairleigh Dickinson had several scoring opportunities in the contest, but could not convert. Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) had his shot blocked in the 26th minute. The junior's best chance to get Fairleigh Dickinson came in the 62nd minute, but his header off a cross bounced over the net high.
Malijani gave the Knights their final scoring chance in the 72nd minute, missed high. Davis made saves against Jason Wells (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) in the 58th minute and Fernando Huthmacher in the 69th minute.
"I have a lot of resepct for Mount's team," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "They're very solid and well coached. In the end, we were a little sloppy defensively and in attack."
Fairleigh Dickinson is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 2 when the Knights travel to West Long Branch, NJ to take on intrastate rival Monmouth at 1:00 p.m.
