The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team improved to 4-0-1 in the Northeast Conference, Sunday, Oct. 26 at University Field in Teaneck, NJ. Junior forward Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) (Lusaka, Zambia) registered the game-winner in the 42nd minute to lead the Knights (9-3-2) past Robert Morris University, 1-0.
Malijani's strike marked the tenth-straight match he's found pay dirt. Assists from junior midfielder Vin Reinecke (Toms River, NJ/Archbishop Williams) (Toms River, NJ) and freshman midfielder Christian Vasconez (Quito, Ecuador/Dickinson) (Quito, Ecuador) created the opportunity for Malijani ? who has tallied ten of FDU's last 11 markers. A string of pass down the right side, followed by a cross, enabled the Knights' top scorer to convert an effort far post.
In the 61st minute, Colonials senior goalkeeper Matt Felice (Missisaugua, Ontario) stoned Malijani on a penalty kick, diving to his right. He came up big again in the 80th minute, preventing Malijani's breakaway effort in search of an insurance goal.
“In spite of the fact we were not sharp in our finishing, I thought we played well,” Head Coach Seth Roland said. “I'm pleased with the effort.”
Junior goalkeeper Majdi Zaineh (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) (Clifton, NJ) upped his record to 6-1-1 on the season without recording a save. Felice made nine stops, as FDU out-shot their visiting opponent, 20-6. Robert Morris dipped to 2-12-2 overall and 0-5-1 in league play.
Fairleigh Dickinson travels to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Mount St. Mary's University at 3:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31.
