Three-Set Rally Powers Volleyball Past Bryant

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team battled for a 3-2 victory at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI, Thursday, October 2.  Four Knights posted double-doubles, en route to a 12-7 record, as FDU bounced back from a 2-0 hole.

 

The future Northeast Conference member Bulldogs (11-7) jumped out early on the strength of 30-28 and 25-21 decisions.  However, Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad rattled off back-to-back wins by counts of 25-19.  In the deciding game, the Knights edged Bryant, 16-14.

 

Senior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) erupted for a career-high 33 kills (.429 attack percentage), coupled with 19 digs, three service aces, and three block assists.  Junior outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) also bolstered the offense with 10 kills and 15 digs, in addition to her pair of aces and block assists.

 

Senior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) ripped off 17 assists, 15 kills, eight digs, and four service aces.  Freshman counterpart Sarah Willey (Abingdon, MD/Bel Air) added a team-leading 22 assists, as well as eight digs and a pair of service aces.  Classmate Kelsey Semler (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic), a libero, contributed 17 digs and a career-high 11 assists.

 

Freshman middle blocker Meghan Alger (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop McNamara) hit .308, recording five kills and four block assists.

 

FDU is idle until Wednesday, Oct. 8, when Manhattan College visits the Rothman Center in Hackensack, NJ.  The match is slated for 7:00 p.m.
