Men's Soccer Falls at Intrastate Rival Princeton on Sunday, 2-0

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team fell to host Princeton University on Sunday evening, 2-0. The Knights fall to 2-5-1 on the season, while the Tigers improve to 1-6-1.

Josh Walburn's goal on a free kick in the 63rd minute put Princeton on the board and Max Hare's header to finish a cross in the 85th minute added insurance.

Walburn's goal with 26:16 remaining in the second half came after FDU committed a foul outside the Princeton box. His free kick was a low runner toward the left post that got past shielded FDU goalie Majdi Zaineh (Clifton, NJ/Clifton) and gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

After fighting off several game-tying chances from the Knights in the following 20 minutes, Princeton scored again with 4:36 left. Teddy Schneider went down the left side and sent a pass across the box to Harms, who crossed the ball into the box to Hare, who redirected the pass.

FDU had a pair of chances from Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) and Sergio Munoz (Linden, NJ/Linden) late in the half, but were unable to convert. Zaineh made his first start as a Knight, playing all 90 minutes between the posts and making three saves. Sean Lynch made one save and earned the shutout in goal for Princeton.

The Knights and Tigers were tied in shots with 10 each, while Princeton held an edge in corner kicks, 7-3.

"I'm pleased with the fact that we competed hard," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "We need to be sharper in the attack if we are going to win close games."

The Knights open their conference season against Northeast Conference foe Central Conn. State at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5.
