Resilient Women's Volleyball Team Earns 3-2 Victory in 2007 Home Opener Versus Iona

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team fought to 3-2 victory over Iona College in 2007 home opener, Wednesday, Sept. 19 in Hackensack, NJ.  Junior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) notched a triple-double of 24 assists, 14 digs and 14 kills, as the Knights improved to 7-6 overall.

 

FDU topped the Gaels (4-9) in game one, 30-27, but were edged in the second game, 31-29.  The Knights took game three, 30-26, before Iona squeaked by in the fourth game, 30-28.  Despite two starters sidelined for the deciding game, Head Coach Stacey Recanati's squad took four-straight points, en route to a 15-11 victory.

 

Sophomore outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Latham, MD/Elizabeth Seton) accrued a hitting percentage of .379 (14 kills), in addition to 14 digs, posting a double-double.  In four games, junior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) also collected a double-double with a .387 success rate, hammering 19 kills, coupled with 15 digs.

 

Senior setter Ruth Levy (/Cary) (Cary, NC/Cary) tallied a double-double effort of a team-best 46 assists and 16 digs.  Classmate Rebecca Tenney (/Tabb) (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) contributed two team-highs, 20 kills and an astounding .500 hitting percentage from the middle blocker role.

 

Junior libero Jennifer Brugger (/Centreville) (Clifton, VA/Centreville) finished with 18 digs and nine kills.  Senior counterpart Lauren Lombardo (/Laurel) (New Castle, PA/Laurel) added 10 digs.

 

The Knights travel to Newark, DE at 7:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21 to face the University of Delaware.
