The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team fell in its 2007 season opener, 2-0, to host St. John's on Friday, August 31.
Following a foul in the closing minutes of the first half, Ryan Soroka fired a shot that defender Xavier McFarlane (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) was in just the right place to deny as he came up with a save of his own to keep the Red Storm off the board.
After 54 minutes of scoreless action, Adam Himeno headed in a cross from Jara Habib to put the Red Storm on the board, 1-0. Twenty minutes later, Soroka made it a 2-0 game. Alex Paszek sent a long pass and Soroka found the back of the net.
Senior Elvir Prasovic (Astoria, NY/Newcomers) played between the posts for the Knights, making two saves. Neal Kitson played in goal for the Red Storm, making one save.
St. John's out-shot FDU, 14-3, and had 11 corner kicks while the Knights took none.
Fairleigh Dickinson had a chance to tie up the game in the 65th minute when Sergio Munoz (Linden, NJ/Linden) blasted a shot at the net, but Kitson made a save.
The Knights' final chance to get on the board came with under a minute on the clock as Munoz took a shot, but it strayed wide.
The Knights continue in action at the St. John's Tournament in Jamaica, NY against Buffalo on Sunday, Sept. 2 at 5:00 p.m.
