The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team improved to 2-0 on the season following a 3-1 win versus home-standing University of Hartford in the New Balance Invitational, Friday, Aug. 31. Junior setter Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ) tallied a double-double of 24 assists and 21 digs to top the tournament host Hawks (0-3) in the first of three matches over a two-day span.
The Knights edged Hartford in the initial two games, 30-28, but fell, 30-23, in the third game. Fairleigh Dickinson sealed the victory with another 30-28 win in the fourth game.
Junior middle blocker Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ) slammed a team-high 19 kills ? recording a .342 attack percentage ? coupled with four block assists. Senior middle blocker Rebecca Tenney (/Tabb) (Yorktown, VA) added 11 kills (.281 attack percentage), six block assists and three service aces.
Senior setter Ruth Levy (/Cary) (Cary, NC) finished with 24 assists. Senior libero Lauren Lombardo (/Laurel) (Laurel, PA) contributed 14 digs.
Junior outside hitter Megan Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Seabrook, MD) registered six kills and five block assists. Sophomore Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Latham, MD) and freshman Erin Roudebush (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) (Westfield, NJ) chipped-in five kills a piece from the outside hitter roles. A. Philbrick also collected eight digs and three service aces.
Fairleigh Dickinson faces Northeast Conference foe Central Connecticut State University at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 1 in Hartford, CT, followed by a 4:00 p.m. contest against University of Rhode Island.
