The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team lost 10-1 versus Quinnipiac University, Saturday, April 7 at FDU Field in Teaneck, NJ.
The Bobcats (8-8-1, 2-2 Northeast Conference) battled back from an 0-2 hole in the series to split the four-game, conference opening weekend set, out-scoring Fairleigh Dickinson 25-2 in the final two ball games.
QU took a 1-0 lead in the second frame off a solo shot to left field by infielder Randy Gress (Shelton, CT).
The Knights (7-18, 2-2 NEC) tied the contest, 1-1, the following inning when sophomore outfielder Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) drove a pitch past the shortstop, scoring sophomore catcher Vincent Pennacchio (Huntington Station, NY/Commack) (Huntington, Station, NY/Commack) from second base.
Quinnipiac regained the advantage in the top of the fourth, plating four runs, highlighted by a two-run double down the leftfield line by infielder Wilson Matos (Larchmont, NY). The Bobcats tacked on another run in the following frame, courtesy of an RBI double off the top of the right field fence by Gress (four hits, three RBI).
QU outfielder Tim Binkoski (North Haven, CT) slapped a single through the right side in the sixth inning, bringing around two runs ? good for an 8-1 lead.
Senior right-hander Stephen Eng (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) (Fresh Meadows, NY/St. Francis Prep) took the loss, logging 5.1 innings. The bullpen trio of sophomore righty John Arciuolo (East Williston, NY/Wheatley) (East Williston, NY/Wheatley), freshman southpaw Anthony Champion (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Absegami) Jr. (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Absegami) and sophomore right-hander Ben Green (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) (Plainview, NY/JFK Plainview) didn't yield an earned run in 4.2 innings of combined work.
Senior outfielder Chris Grabowski (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) (Brooklyn, NY/Xaverian) and freshman infielder Patrick Furey (Ponoma, NY/North Rockland) (Pomona, NY/North Rockland) both reached base twice.
