Softball Loses Doubleheader at Rutgers

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team fell to host Rutgers University on Tuesday afternoon, dropping both games of a doubleheader- 9-1 and 12-2 in Piscataway, NJ. The Scarlet Knights improve to 19-26, while the Knights fall to 6-28 on the saeson.

In the first game, RU took a 6-0 lead through the first four innings. The Knights were able to push a run across the plate in the top of the fifth, but it wasn't enough as Rutgers added three more to close out the game.

The lone run came from a solo shot from Jennifer Boldman (Winter Haven, FL/Winter Haven) over the left field fence.

Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) finished the game 2-for-3 while Boldman and Kristen Coughlan were each 1-for-2.

Rutgers took an early lead in the second game, putting a pair of runs on the board in the first inning. The Knights responded in the top of the second as Boldman started things off with a walk. She advanced on a passed ball and Meghan Doherty (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) moved her to third on a single to the left side. Justina Augustine sent a single to right center to plate Boldman and bring the Knights within one, 2-1.

But Rutgers kept its distance, putting up three more runs with a pair of RBI triples in the bottom of the inning for the 5-1 edge.

FDU responded again in the top of the third as Lindsay Glidden singled to left center to get on base. Jaime Colvin (Fawn Grove, PA/Kennard-Dale) sent a single to left field with two outs and Boldman singled through the right side to push Glidden across the plate.

With the 5-2 advantage, the Scarlet Knights recorded two more runs in the fourth and tacked on five in the fifth to end the game in five innings.

Glidden went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Boldman was 1-for-1 with an RBI a run and a walk. Augustine and Doherty were each 1-for-2.

Fairleigh Dickinson is back in action when it hosts Manhattan on Wednesday, April 25th in a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
