Softball Falls in Doubleheader at Monmouth

The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team dropped a pair of games to host Monmouth University on Saturday, April 14, falling 3-0 and 8-0. The Hawks improve to 23-8 with a 9-1 record in Northeast Conference play, while the Knights fall to 6-20 overall, including a 2-6 mark in league action.

Kristine Sawlsville pitched a two-hitter in the first game to lead the Hawks to a 3-0 win. The Hawks got on the board early, putting up tow runs in the first inning and adding another in the third. Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic) was 1-for-3 and Lindsay Glidden was 1-for-2.

Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) pitched a complete game for Fairleigh Dickinson, scattering eight hits.

In the second game, the Hawks put up a pair of three-run innings to start the game with a 6-0 lead. Monmouth then added a run in the fourth and tacked on the final run in the sixth to end the game ahead 8-0. Heather Gordon earned the win on the mound for the Hawks, allowing only three hits in six innings, walking three and striking out one.

Hilman led the Knights' offensive effort, going 2-for-3, while Caitlyn Reuter (Richwood, NJ/Clearview Regional) went 1-for-3 with a double to left field in the fifth inning and a walk. Buchanan took the loss for FDU in 4.1 innings of work.
