The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Lafayette College, Tuesday, April 10 in Easton, PA. The Knights (6-18) battled back from a 2-0 deficit in game one, but fell in extra innings, 4-3, then were defeated in the nightcap, 6-1.
Trailing 2-0, infielder junior Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic) (Bremerton, WA) ? who tallied a two- hit performance ? singled to leadoff the fourth inning and later scored on an error. In the following inning, senior infielder Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levittown, PA) walked to start the top half of the fifth inning and also scored on an error.
FDU took a 3-2 advantage in the eighth inning, with international tie-breaker rules in effect, sparked by an RBI base knock courtesy of senior outfielder Jaime Colvin (Fawn Grove, PA/Kennard-Dale) (Fawn Grove, PA). However, the Leopards (13-13) rallied to plate a pair of runs to seal the victory.
Junior right-hander Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) (West Windsor, NY) slipped to 3-10 on the season, tossing 4.2 innings and yielding one earned run in the first contest. She also suffered the loss in the nightcap in six innings of work.
In game two, freshman infielder Lindsay Glidden (Peachtree City, GA) notched a two-bagger to right field in the fourth frame, bringing around Myers who earlier worked a one-out walk.
"They were two close games," said Interim Head Coach Tammy Evans. "We just couldn't execute in the first game to get the job done in the first game and in the second game, they just produced more offensively than we did."
The Knights host Long Island University for a doubleheader (3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.), Thursday, April 12 in Hackensack, NJ.
