The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team split a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, FL as they bounced back from a 3-1 loss to Mississippi Valley State to defeat Columbia, 3-1.
The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) smacked a single to get on base. She advanced to third on an error in the outfield and was brought home on a double from Hope Hilman (Bremerton, WA/Olympic).
The score remained 1-0 until the fourth inning, when Mississippi Valley scored a pair of runs and tacked on another in the fifth. FDU recorded eight hits, but was unable to convert.
Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) took the loss, going the distance on the mound for the Knights to pitch a complete game.
Fairleigh Dickinson again jumped on the board first against Columbia, as the Knights took a 2-0 advantage in the fourth inning. Ali Keltos (Shelton, CT/Lauralton Hall) hit a leadoff double and Hilman advanced her with a sacrifice fly. An error in the field allowed Hilman to reach base and after Keltos stole home for the first run of the game, Hilman scored on an RBI single from Kristen Coughlan. Columbia got one run in the sixth but it wasn't enough as the Knights added another run in the sixth inning.
Keltos walked and was driven home by Lindsay Glidden's single to make the final 3-1.
