The Fairleigh Dickinson softball team dropped a pair of games at the Rebel Spring Games in Orlando, FL, opening the day with a 3-2 loss to Valparaiso and falling, 4-0, in the nightcap verus East Tennessee State.
FDU was up, 1-0, against Valparaiso after the first inning. Senior Dana Myers (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) had a single and senior Caitlyn Reuter (Richwood, NJ/Clearview Regional) drove her in with a triple. Valparaiso was able to knot the score, but Myers again got on base and freshman Lindsay Glidden plated her with a sacrifice fly to regain the Knights' lead, 2-1. Valparaiso got one right away to knot the game, 2-2, and it stayed like that until the bottom of seventh inning with two outs, when they got a bloop hit to win the game. Freshman Trina Fields pitched the first four and a third and junior Ashley Buchanan (West Windsor, NY/West Windsor) finished the game. Myers was 3-for-4 in the loss. Valparaiso knocked in eight runs, while Fairleigh Dickinson had six.
In the second game, the Knights were shutout by ETS, 4-0. Myers broke up a no-hitter in the seventh inning. East Tennessee jumped out to a 1-0 lead off an error in the first inning and picked up two more in the third. They sealed the win with one more in the sixth inning. Buchanan went five innings on the mound for FDU and sophomore Courtney Haroules (Littleton, MA/Cushing Academy) and Fields combined to close it out.
The Knights are back in action on Sunday, March 11, playing Yale at 11:00 a.m. and Manhattan at 3:00 p.m.
