Women's Basketball Loses, 73-37, at Seton Hall

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team fell, 73-37, versus Seton Hall University, Monday, Nov. 12 in South Orange, NJ.  Senior forward Jennifer Walkling (Westminster, MD/Westminster) (Westminster, MD) notched 10 points and five rebounds as the Knights slipped to 0-2 on the season.

The Pirates (2-0) started the contest on a 10-1 run, before freshman guard Jasmyra Saunders (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic) (Trenton, NJ) dropped in a bucket exactly nine minutes after the opening tip.

FDU cut the deficit to 19-13 with 2:36 remaining when senior center Mercedez Walker (Stratford, CT/Bunnell) (Stratford, CT) rattled home a right-handed scoop shot in the paint.  The hoop capped up an 8-2 surge by the Knights, where Walkling dropped in six-straight points.

Seton Hall concluded the half on an 8-0 run, en route to a 27-13 halftime lead.  Junior forward Noteisha Womack (Washington, DC) registered nine rebounds by the break, as the home-standing squad held a 28-19 advantage on the glass (10 offensive boards).

Sophomore forward Christy Altamirano (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) (Bayonne, NJ) opened the second-half with a deuce down low.  However, the Pirates responded with an 8-0 run, before freshman guard Jenna Strich (Brick, NJ) popped a trey with 17:22 remaining to create a 35-18 contest.

Seton Hall would seal the win with a 21-3 push, opening up a 56-21 ball game.

"Seton Hall played a tough game and really came around in the second-half," Head Coach Peter Cinella said.  "We just need to shoot the ball better and take better care of the basketball."

The Knights broke off seven-consecutive points late in the second-half, with freshman guard Alyssa Mayrose (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) (Freehold, NJ) knocking down a pull-up from downtown, followed by four-straight by Walker, including an old-fashioned three-point play.

Walker posted seven points and seven rebounds.  Senior guard Shanay Freeman (Laurelton, NY/Towsend Harris) (Laurelton, NY) scored five and Strich six.

Womack paced SHU with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Ela Mukosiej (Bialystok, Poland) and junior guard Jadis Rhodin (Lakehurst, NJ) botch recorded double-digit point totals with 10 and 14, respectively.
