Men's Soccer Battles Hofstra to a 0-0 Tie

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team battled visiting Hofstra to a 0-0 double-overtime draw on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium. The Knights now hold a 2-1-2 overall record, while Hofstra is 2-2-1 overall.

The Pride's best chance in regulation came in the in the first half, when Hofstra floated the ball into a scramble in front of the net. Michael Todd (Cleveland, England) received a header pass five yards out and tried to bury it, but Tomer Chencinksi (Toronto, Canada) made a diving save on the right side to secure the scoreless period.

Todd, who led the Pride with 10 of the team's 14 shots, had another chance with 3:22 remaining in the first overtime period. The opportunity was created off a free kick, but the shot was blocked by the FDU defense.

At the start of the first overtime, FDU applied offensive pressure and created an opportunity for Max Squarcia (Rome, Italy), but Tom Johansen (Northport, NY), between the posts for the Pride, knocked the shot away.

With under a minute, Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL/ASES Group) (Weston, FL) took a pass from the right side, moved past a defender and tried to end the game with an FDU win, but the shot went wide.

Chencinksi logged 110:00 minutes, making five saves, while Johansen had one save. Hofstra out-shot the Knights, 14-8, and held a slight edge with six corner kicks to FDU's five.

“I don't think we were particularly sharp today but certainly some of that has to do with how well Hofstra played against us,” said Head Coach Seth Roland. “On the bright side, we've only allowed two goals in five games.”

The Knights are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 3:00 p.m., when they host Princeton University at University Stadium in Teaneck, NJ.
