The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team defeated Coppin State, 3-2, Sunday to secure a second-place finish in the 2006 George Washington University Invitational. Sophomore middle hitter Lauren Boothby (/Voorhees) (Glen Gardner, NJ) and junior outside hitter Elena Schmidt (/Nevada Union) (Nevada City, CA) paced the Knights' (3-1) offense, en route to receiving All-Tournament Team bids.
FDU trailed 2-1 after the initial three games, but rallied to back-to-back victories to seal the win for Head Coach Stacey Recanati. After dropping a 30-26 decision in the opener, the Knights took the second game, 30-22. The Eagles won game three, 30-25, with Fairleigh Dickinson closing out the match via wins of 30-19 and 15-7.
Boothby tallied 21 kills, while Schmidt notched 15 kills and 16 digs.
Junior setter Ruth Levy (/Cary) (Cary, NC) and sophomore Karolina Kowalski (/North Arlington) (North Arlington, NJ) registered 33 and 28 assists, respectively.
Freshman outside hitter Ali Philbrick (/Elizabeth Seton) (Lanham, MD) contributed a career-best 15 kills.
The Knights travel to Lehigh University at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6.
