Men?s Soccer Shuts Out St. Francis (NY) in NEC Opener

The Fairleigh Dickinson University men's soccer team racked up five goals versus Francis College (NY) Friday, Sept 29 at University Field in Teaneck, NJ, en route to a shutout in the team's Northeast Conference debut. The Knights (4-3-2, 1-0) rode a three-goal offensive outburst inside a span of seven, first-half minutes, as three players registered a goal and an assist on the afternoon.

 

Freshman forward Samson Majijani (Lusaka, Zambia/Kafue) struck for the game-winning tally in the 29th minute, set-up by a touch from sophomore midfielder Alejandro Bedoya (Weston, FL/ASES Group) (Weston, FL/St. Thomas Aquintas). Five minutes following his insertion onto the pitch ? and just over two minutes following FDU's first score ?sophomore forward Fabrizio Trezza (Rome, Italy, /Sion) (Rome, Italy/La Sapienza) deposited a shot into the back of the net, as Malijana connected with his fellow forward in the box. Junior forward Pino Tubito (East Hanover, NJ/St. Thomas Aquinas) (East Hanover, NJ/Morris Catholic) rounded out the initial 45 minutes with an unassisted goal in the 35th minute.

 

“I'm pleased with getting three points and having a good all-around effort,” said Head Coach Seth

Roland.

 

The Knights capitalized on a set play in the 69th minute, when junior forward Adrian Dinculescu (Ramnicu Valcea, /Ramsey) (Ramnicu Valcea, Romania/ASES Group) headed home a cross by Trezza. Dinculescu later picked up an assist when freshman forward Valcone “Boo” Barrett (Stamford, CT/Stamford) netted his first collegiate goal with one second remaining in the contest, burying a strike from 30 yards out.

 

FDU senior goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski (Toronto, Canada, /Chapel School) (Toronto, Canada/Robert Morris) had five saves to get the win. Terriers (0-9, 0-1) goalkeeper Chris Antonio (Howard Beach, NY/A.B. Molloy) made nine saves, as Fairleigh Dickinson posted 22 shots.

 

The Knights host Long Island University at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1 at University Field.
