Men's Soccer Falls to Yale, 2-1

The Yale Bulldogs used two late-game goals to stage a 2-1 comeback win over host Fairleigh Dickinson at University Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.   The Knights fall to 3-2-2, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-3-1.

The Knights used their only shot of the first half to get on the board and take a 1-0 advantage. Dan Rasoilo (Clark, NJ/Union Catholic Regional) created the opportunity, getting the ball to Samson Malijani (Lusaka, Zambia, /La Sapienza) on the right side. Malijani tapped the ball over to Jorge Blacido (Ramsey, NJ/Rider), who buried the ball on the left side from in front of the net in the 37th minute for his third goal of the season.

Gage Hills netted the game-winner in the 87th minute off a penalty kick. Four minutes earlier, the game was tied on an own goal when a pair of FDU defenders went up in a scramble and deflected the ball into the net.

"This game was a classic example of how it's not enough to play well," said Head Coach Seth Roland. "You have to score goals. There were a couple of unfortunate errors in the last seven or eight minutes and opportunities that we didn't take advantage of."

The Knights and Bulldogs each had eight shots and Yale held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Dwayne Whylly, between the posts for the Bulldogs, made three saves, all in the second half.

The Knights open their conference season with three home games, starting with St. Francis NY on Friday, Sept. 29 at 4:00 p.m.
